OPPORTUNITY: Design and implement a climate change impact modelling framework

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, through the Climate Support Programme Phase IV (CSP IV), in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), is excited to announce a call for applications for a tender to design and implement a climate change impact modelling framework for key sectors in South Africa.

This assignment aims to support the implementation of the Climate Change Act, Act No. 22 of 2024 by assessing climate change impacts, translating biophysical risks into socio-economic terms, and informing national adaptation planning and policy development. The work will involve extensive data integration, scenario development, and capacity building to strengthen South Africa’s resilience to climate change.

🔎 Key Focus Areas:

➡️ Develop an Impact Modelling Framework that addresses data integration, model selection, calibration, scenario simulation, cost analysis, reporting, capacity building and implementation.
➡️ Conduct impact modelling to assess how the climate scenarios are likely to affect economic, social, and environmental systems.
➡️ Develop a comprehensive Impact Modelling Report & Sectoral Policy Briefs that integrates biophysical, economic, and social findings.
➡️ Conduct capacity building workshops to provide a framework for decision makers on how to integrate findings of the impact modelling excise into sector and provincial adaptation plans.

We welcome applications from multidisciplinary teams, consultancies, academic institutions, or organisations with demonstrated expertise in:

➡️ Climate change adaptation policy and implementation
➡️ Economic Modelling and Socio-Economic Impact Modelling
➡️ Data Analytics including the use of a range of tools, techniques, and processes to collect, clean, analyse, visualise, and interpret data.
➡️ South African environmental and socio-economic contexts.
