OPPORTUNITY: Development and Implementation of a Just Transition SMME Facility

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, through the Just Transition to a Decarbonised Economy for South Africa (JUST SA), in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) is excited to announce a call for applications for a tender to develop and implement a Just Transition SMME Facility.

The purpose of the facility is to provide support which will aid in expanding businesses in the Mpumalanga province through technical support. Subsequently reducing the negative socio-economic impacts from a transition away from a coal-based energy sector, and to capitalise on opportunities created by a lower-carbon and more environmentally sustainable economy in the province.

Key focus areas:

• Enable businesses in Mpumalanga to capitalise on the opportunities created by the JET-IP.
• Reduce the negative socio-economic impacts from a transition away from a coal-based energy sector, and to capitalise on opportunities created by a lower-carbon and more environmentally sustainable economy in Mpumalanga.
•  Assist the selected SMMEs develop bankable business plans and provide extensive business development support. Outside of specific fundraising activities, the business development support will directly improve the business operations, productivity and growth potential of the targeted SMMEs.
• Support already established enterprises to grow, raise finance, and become increasingly financially and environmentally sustainable.

Who should apply?

We welcome applications from multidisciplinary teams, consultancies, academic institutions, or organizations with demonstrated expertise in:

• Business and management consultancy services
• Business development consultancy services
• SMME Development and Implementation
• Sustainable Finance Readiness
• Economic Diversification (in the Mpumalanga region/ context)
